This was a lucky, rare gem purchased in Sydney. It had become quite neglected over the years, to the extent that even the centre stand was broken so the bike had to be stored, propped against a wall.

After completely dismantling the bike, the first step was to replace the centre stand brackets, a common fault with Earles Fork model bikes. The rear guard had significant rust and given the rarity of the bike parts, significant fabrication was required to bring it back to new. This was a 12 month program of work.

This R69S held a special place in Martin’s stable (and heart), as it was one of his first complete restorations and was the first of this model to come off the production line globally. However, Martin’s next project was calling, and Lenny from Perth, having previously bought a white BMW R60S from Martin, was keen to create a pair, with this contrasting black model. Lenny now splits his affection between his two BMW 1960’s beauties.
